The Nativity scene featured at the end of Concord High School’s annual Christmas Spectacular event will be included in the 2015 and future presentations.

Concord Community Schools Superintendent John Trout read a statement to a crowd of about 200 people confirming that during the school board meeting Tuesday night, Sept. 8, according to 95.3 MNC’s news partners The Elkhart Truth.

The Nativity scene was called into question by the Freedom From Religion Foundation, a Wisconsin-based group that says its dedicated to the separation of church in state. A letter from the foundation sent to Trout called the Nativity scene “inappropriate” and “illegal” and requested that the school stop including it from its annual holiday concert.

Trout disagreed.

“That is not an accurate statement of the law,” he said. “… For more than 30 years, the Spectacular has been an important part of the Concord High School holiday experience. It will continue to be so.”
