Hometown Heroes: Harrison Primary Center VP David Van Dyke inspires children and adults every day

News/Talk 95.3 Michiana’s News Channel and Martin’s Super Markets are honoring our Hometown Heroes this fall and we’ve chosen our fifth honoree.

John David Van Dyke is vice principal at Harrison Primary Center, but he works to inspire children and adults outside of school. He was nominated by his mom, Linda Van Dyke. Here’s what she wrote about him:

I am nominating my son David Van Dyke. He is vice principal at Harrison Primary Center in South Bend. He was instrumental in collecting funds to restore the playground that was destroyed by an arsonist. On Sept. 24, several community leaders celebrated the restoration. He is also the founder of the Van Dyke Revue, a local band who play a variety of music for all types of venues. He is a marathon runner. He is a role model to his brother, who has a disability. He plays music for children in the summer at the Stop Lunch Listen program in Buchanan, Mich. His greatest tribute to me is that he saved my life. On April 1, he donated one of his kidneys to me at the University of Michigan transplant hospital. He is my hero!

Thank you for giving to others, David. Congratulations on being named our fifth Hometown Hero!

News/Talk 95.3 MNC will name one hero a week for the next seven weeks and we’re still accepting submissions. Nominate your Hometown Hero today.
