Police shot at during shooting investigation at Washington Gardens Apartments in Elkhart on Sunday

An Elkhart Police officer was shot at during the investigation of a shooting at Washington Gardens housing complex in Elkhart.

Police were called to the 400 block of Chapman Avenue in Elkhart around 8:20 p.m. on Sunday, April 17, according to Elkhart Police Sgt. Chris Snyder.

When officers arrival they found a male victim who was taken to Elkhart General Hospital with life-threatening injuries, Snyder stated.

While police were on the scene canvasing the area for witnesses and clues, at least one shot was fired at an officer, according to 95.3 MNC’s reporting partners at ABC 57.

The bullet missed the officer by just two feet, ABC 57 reported. Police took cover behind the apartment buildings.

The scene was cleared around 11:45 p.m.

Police have not announced any arrests or suspect information.
