Fewer shootings reported in South Bend during the first three months of 2016 compared to recent years

Less people were shot in South Bend during the first three months of 2016, compared to the two previous years.

From January to the end of March, 12 people were shot in South Bend, compared to 15 during the same period in 2015 and 20 in 2014, the South Bend Tribune reported.

Officers believe the decrease is at least in part to the South Bend Police Department focusing on reducing gang and group violence.

In the first three months of 2016, six of the shootings were tied to gangs or groups, down from 10 in 2015 and 17 in 2014.

Find out what the South Bend Police Department is doing to reduce gang violence in the full story from the South Bend Tribune.
