Kyle Treber to serve 90 days in jail after pleading guilty to drug possession charge

A Granger man will spend 90 days in jail after pleading guilty to having oxycodone on him at a Granger house party attended by two brothers who died after overdosing on the drug.

Kyle Treber, 19, was sentenced Friday, May 12, to two years in prison, but one year is suspended, WSBT reported. He was ordered to serve 90 days total in jail.

St. Joseph Superior Court Judge Jane Woodward Miller compared his crime to illegal possession of a handgun, which also carries an average jail sentence of 90 days.

He has one week to turn himself in to the St. Joseph County Jail to serve his sentence.

The courtroom was packed for the sentencing hearing and some people were not able to get inside the room.

Treber pleaded guilty to one count of possession of a narcotic drug April 14. In exchange, three charges of dealing in a narcotic were dropped.

Treber was charged in connection to a Granger house party attended by 19-year-old Nick Savage and 18-year-old Jack Savage the night before they were found dead at their home in Granger on July 14.

Witnesses told police that Treber brought a bottle of oxycodone to the party and shared it with other attendees, according to court documents. Police were called at 1:30 a.m. July 14 to the home on Bryanton Court where the party was hosted and found Treber overdosing on the prescription drug.

Emergency responders used Narcan to revive him.

Treber was not charged in direct connection to the deaths of the Savage brothers because police found other bottles of oxycodone that the two men may have had access to.
