17,600 still without power in Michiana after Monday’s storm

More than 17,000 people are still without power as of noon Tuesday after a severe storm knocked out more to more than 32,000 people throughout northern Indiana and southwestern Michigan.

Indiana Michigan Power reported the following outages as of noon:

The storm on Monday brought heavy rain and winds that blew over power lines and knocked down trees. Damage was especially severe in Buchanan, Mich., where 35 power line poles were broken, including 21 in a single neighborhood.

Overall, 57 poles, 25 crossarms and 16 transformers were damaged during the storm, according to I&M.

Crews have been working to restore power since Monday afternoon, but I&M did not have restoration times available at noon.

Anyone who sees a downed power line is asked to call 1-800-311-4634 to report it.
