Traffic stop leads to drug, weapons-related charges for Dowagiac woman

A traffic stop in Dowagiac, Mich resulted the arrest of a 20-year-old woman on multiple felony drug and gun charges.

Officers conducted the stop around 1:20 a.m. on Thursday, July 21, at Edwards Street near East Division Street in Dowagiac.

The driver did not have a valid operator’s license, according to Deputy Chief Jarrid Bradford with the Dowagiac Police Department.

A department K-9 alerted officers to the presence of suspected controlled substances, Bradford stated.

A search of the vehicle revealed two loaded handguns, multiple knives, brass knuckles, over 30 packages of suspected methamphetamine, a small amount of suspected heroin, and various methamphetamine related items, Bradford stated.

The driver of the vehicle, Cheyenne Kiggins of Dowagiac, was arrested.

Kiggins’ bond was set at $20,000 cash. She is being held in the Cass County Jail.
