INDIANAPOLIS (AP) — Education advocates plan to launch a campaign Friday in Indianapolis for a statewide pre-kindergarten program during next year’s legislative session.

Organizers with the All IN 4 Pre-K campaign say they will focus on families and community leaders. The (Bloomington) Herald-Times reports that the group set up a booth Wednesday in Bloomington to collect stories from parents and children who have had positive pre-kindergarten experiences.

Organizer Cate Walls said the campaign hopes to partner with community organizations like Head Start and plans a panel discussion in the fall.

Early Learning Indiana CEO and president Ted Maple says families want pre-kindergarten programming but have a hard time paying for it. He says expanding access and increasing funding will better prepare Indiana 4-year-old children for school.
