Five hurt after short police chase in Elkhart

A short chase with Elkhart County deputies has led to a lot of trouble for a 19-year-old man.

The pursuit happened early Sunday night at Nappanee Street and Lexington Avenue. Dorion Tompkins ended up crashing his vehicle into another car about a block north, according to our reporting partners at the Elkhart Truth.

Five people in total were hurt. One of Tompkins’ passengers suffered a broken femur. Four passengers in the other vehicle had to be transported to Elkhart General Hospital.

Tompkins faces a few charges. His vehicle was also stolen out of Chicago, according to the Elkhart County Sheriff’s Department.
