South Bend man dies one week after motorcycle crash

A motorcycle crash in Mishawaka last Tuesday has now turned fatal.

56-year-old Richard Bowman of South Bend had been in the hospital since he tried to avoid a deer on Capitol Ave. south of Day Rd., according to St. Joseph County police.

Bowman was heading northbound when the deer appeared in his path. He tried a panic stop, but ended up hitting the deer after his rear brake locked.

Bowman was in the hospital since then with a serious head injury. He died Tuesday morning, according to police.
