It appears Goshen College‘s next president will have a bit of ivy in her resume.
The Christian liberal arts school has announced that Rebecca Stoltzfus is the school’s candidate of choice to become the 18th president of the college.
Stoltzfus currently is the vice provost for undergraduate education at Cornell University, an Ivy League school in Ithaca, New York. She is also a professor in Cornell’s Division of Nutritional Sciences.
In 1983, Stoltzfus graduated from Goshen College as a chemistry major, then went on to graduate Cornell with master’s and doctorates in human nutrition.
“The transformative education I received at Goshen College has fundamentally shaped my understanding of the world and my work as a global health researcher, as a teacher and as a leader in higher education,” Stoltzfus said. “Thus, I am deeply honored by this call to return to my alma mater to serve and lead at this time.”
Her selection as president isn’t 100% official yet. She’ll visit the campus and be introduced to the college community on June 14 and 15. At that point, the Presidential Search Committee will present a final recommendation to the Goshen College and Mennonite Education Agency boards.

Another milk-toast academic is the last thing you people need. As an alumni, I can tell you that degree is worth about as much as an arm’s-length yank of Charmin. Your student body has dwindled by a full third, in an atmosphere where colleges are building dorms left and right. What you need is a businessman, not a stuffed shirt academic. That’s what got you into trouble you’re in.
