Officers at the Berrien County Courthouse say that two people from Wyoming, Michigan were arrested after one of them tried to bring a loaded gun into the courthouse.

Sheriff Paul Bailey told ABC 57 News that the courthouse was not placed on lockdown Tuesday morning and no one was injured.

The Berrien County Sheriff’s Office says 37-year-old Molly Michiell Jackson had a concealed gun inside a purse. A man that accompanied the woman, 40-year-old Arnelda Dywayne Jackson, tried to take the purse once the x-ray machine detected the gun. Both suspects tried to flee, but were caught in the courthouse parking lot. A loaded semi-automatic was found in the purse.

The courthouse, on Port Street in St. Joseph, was the scene of a shooting incident in July of 2016 that resulted in 3 deaths and 2 injuries after an inmate was able to grab a gun.
