Semi driver from Illinois accused of having marijuana, alcohol in truck

A semi driver was caught with things he shouldn’t have had in his truck on the Indiana Toll Road.

Officers investigated not one, but two crashes involving a semi on the eastbound lanes of the Toll Road near Michigan City on Tuesday. In the second crash, a semi being driven by 41-year-old Alex Galperin of Wheeling, Illinois hit a car while trying to avoid the first crash.

As an officer spoke with Galperin, he smelled marijuana. He searched the cab and found a container of suspected marijuana with a label from a dispensary in Colorado. The trooper also reportedly found unopened alcohol in the cab, which is illegal for a commercial truck driver to have.

Galperin was arrested in multiple marijuana and traffic violations.
