South Shore realignment could impact dozens of homes near airport

The realignment of the South Shore might claim several homes near the South Bend airport.

The city of South Bend has committed to spending $25 million to realign the tracks, which will take a more direct route to the airport and erase ten minutes from the trip.

The South Bend Tribune says it’s unknown how many homes might be impacted. That’s because the city will likely re-route between Oak Road and Lexington Avenue directly south of the airport.

A public hearing will be scheduled for later this year.

This is why we can't have nice things June 5, 2017 at 2:42 pm

25M…how’s that deficit working for you SB. Any more grand projects in the works? Who’s paying for that again? You mean the South Shore is not a profit making venture that requires people who don’t ride it pay for it?

Color me surprised! /sarc

South Bend Mayor is an idiot! June 6, 2017 at 10:17 am

Can anyone tell me why we are paying to send people to Chicago to spend their money? Anyone think people in Chicago will be coming here to spend their money? This is some seriously screwed up plan that surely can be traced to kick backs and political corruption as usual. I work near the SB airport and see the south shore almost daily heading to Chicago. There are not enough people on it now to pay for it so what is the point of any of this? I guess now that the College Football Hall of Fame is gone our mayor needs to find something else to throw our money at! What a waste! We were just taxed again and again by Holcomb so now Buttigieg is taking his turn. “Dumb tracks” to go with our “Dumb streets”. Maybe Buttigieg will put in a “roundy” for the trains too! I hate politicians!
