RV sales expected to peak in 2018, but stay strong for a while, per report

If you’ve been wondering when the peak of the recreational vehicle boom in Elkhart County is going to hit, we may finally have an idea.

The Recreational Vehicle Industry Association’s president, Frank Hugelmeyer, announced Monday that the group is expecting RV sales to peak at 487,200 units in 2018, then hold strong in the years that follow, according to the Elkhart Truth.

The group is also expecting 472,200 units to sell this year, which would also be an industry record and would be the eighth out of a potential nine consecutive years of growth.

The RV industry may yet outpace that projection, though. This year, almost 121,000 units have shipped, which is almost a 12-percent higher clip than the same time in 2016. The 472,200 mark would represent a 10-percent increase from the previous year.

All types of RV sales are increasing, though smaller Type B and C motorhomes appear to be the most popular, with an increase of 30 percent in sales from 2016 to 2017.
