The Pulaski County Jail has signed a contract to help boost the county’s coffers.

Sheriff Jeff Richwine tells ABC 57 that the county is waiting to hear back from the federal government on a proposal that would result in the government paying Pulaski County to house federal inmates in their available cells.

The feds will pay $51-per-day per prisoner, plus travel expenses, to send federal prisoners to Pulaski to be housed. It could result in up to $35,000 per month.

That’s money that the sheriff would like to put toward a new prison van, though he notes the courthouse could use some improvements, as well.
