INDOT considering installing J-Turn lanes on U.S. 31 in Argos

J-turn intersections are popular in Michigan and now, the town of Argos might be getting into the trend with two of its key intersections.

INDOT is holding a public hearing on Tuesday, September 19 to discuss adding a J-turn intersection to U.S. 31 at S.R. 10 and U.S. 31 at Dewey Street. The intersections are known for crashes where a driver plows into the side of another vehicle.

The J-turn would take out a lot of the dangers of trying to turn at the intersections if you’re on U.S. 31 by separating and guiding drivers in designated turn lanes.

It also would add lanes for drivers on Dewey and State Road 10 looking to continue on their respective roads by having them make a u-turn on U.S. 31 and then turn right to get back on their road, meaning travelers only have to cross one direction of traffic at a time.

The public hearing will be held beginning at 6:00 p.m. at the Argos Community Jr. / Sr. High School.
