South Bend child molester sentenced to six decades in prison

A South Bend man is going to prison for a long time for molesting a child.

31-year-old Shawn Jewart took a plea deal in September where he pleaded guilty to two counts of child molesting. He had previously been facing a total of 10 counts, including a count of performing sexual conduct in the presence of a minor.

In his sentencing this week, Jewart received consecutive 33 and 32 year sentences for both counts he pled guilty to. The South Bend Tribune reports the acts happened during March and April of this year and were reported when someone raised concerns about possible prostitution activity at the house.

His wife, 27-year-old Melanie Jewart, is also facing three related charges and will next be in court next Wednesday.
