It was a Tuesday morning none of us will ever forget.

Tuesday is a nationwide Day of Remembrance, and Patriot Day observances will be taking place across the country. Here at home there will be a Day of Remembrance event at 9:00 a.m. at the Standing Tall Freedom Memorial in St. Patrick’s Park.

The event brings together members of the South Bend Fire Department, Clay Fire Territory, Mishawaka Fire Department, and St. Joseph County Police Department. Mayor Pete Buttigieg and representatives from Senator Joe Donnelly’s office, Congresswoman Jackie Walorski, County Commissioner Deborah Fleming, and other public officials will say a few words about the tragic event on September 11th, 2001 that took the lives of several thousand civilians and hundreds of first responders.

MNC’s Mark McGill will be the Master of Ceremonies. Fire Chief Steve Cox invites the community to join them in recognizing our first responders and military members who continue to serve at home and abroad, and all who have died to protect others.

South Bend Adams High School graduate Katie McCloskey was among the 2,763 souls lost when the World Trade Center collapsed, 17 years ago today.

Governor Eric Holcomb has directed flags in Indiana to be at half-mast until sunset.
