Officer Justin Gorny is the former South Bend Police Officer who hit and killed Erica Flores during a pursuit. He was responding to a call at a high rate of speed on July 20th when he struck the young mother of two.

Gorny was fired on Wednesday, Nov. 14, as the five-person board voted to accept SBPD Chief Scott Ruszkowski’s recommendation that Gorny be dismissed. The Chief made the recommendation based on what he called “neglect of duty, violating department rules and conduct unbecoming an officer” in a letter to the board.

Gorny had been previously cleared of criminal charges after a grand jury chose not to indict him on reckless homicide.
