Pedestrian struck, killed while walking across I-94 in Berrien County

A pedestrian on I-94 in Benton Township was struck and killed on Monday, Jan. 7.

The victim was a 33 year-old Coloma man, who was pronounced dead at the scene.

The South Bend Tribune reports that he was hit in the highway’s busy eastbound lanes near mile marker 34, just north of I-196.

Michigan State Police Troopers say they have no idea why the man was attempting to walk across the highway.

A 38-year-old Delton Michigan woman was the driver of the vehicle that hit him.

The initial investigation did not indicate any influence of drugs or alcohol.
