South Bend Common Council to discuss the Police Tapes case Wednesday

(Tommie Lee/MNC)

South Bend’s Common Council is set to meet Wednesday afternoon to discuss the ongoing litigation regarding the South Bend Police Tapes.

The case has already cost the Common Council more than two million dollars in legal fees, according to ABC 57.

The council sued the mayor’s office in 2012 for access to the recordings, which are of phone conversations at the police department. Several officers joined the lawsuit in an effort to keep the tapes from being released.

The recordings allegedly have officers making racist remarks that target former Police Chief Darryl Boykins.
