Gov. Whitmer orders all K-12 schools closed for remainder of the school year

Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer has ordered all K-12 school buildings to close for the remainder of the school year amid the coronavirus outbreak.

Under Whitmer’s executive order, in-person instruction is suspended and guidelines for remote learning for districts are being created created.

K-12 school sports activities and other in-person extracurricular school activities are
also suspended while any state of emergency or state of disaster prompted by COVID-19
is in effect.

Each district will be able to create a localized plan which best fits their community. Those plans must be approved by their regional intermediate school district before it can be implemented.

The executive order also ensures that teachers and school employees will be paid for the remainder of the school year.
