A new identification card option will soon be available to Elkhart residents.

During Monday’s Elkhart City Council meeting, the Council unanimously passed a resolution to create a municipal ID. The City ID, called PRIDE (Proud Resident ID for Elkhart), allows the cardholder to show who they are and where they live.

The ID can be used in multiple situations, such as when parents attend events at their children’s school, when residents interact with law enforcement as a victim or a witness to a crime, or to present as a means of identification to healthcare professionals.

The Council voted 9-0 in favor of the IDs, making Elkhart the fourth city in Indiana to have a municipal ID program. Elkhart joins South Bend, Goshen and Plymouth.

  1. This is a colossal waste of money. What’s wrong with good old fashioned state IDs? Other than you have to be here LEGALLY to get one, of course…

  2. This a waste of time and money, and obviously a way around legal identification. I can’t believe any Republicans actually voted for this nonsense. Only Democrats say people are too dumb to get a driver’s license. Elkhart is pathetic.

  3. yep pander to the ones entering our country illegally and whats next a spot at the voting booth for them. This is a waste of time and money sense we already have state id’s.
