33-year-old struck, killed by vehicle on State Road 23 in South Bend identified

The St. Joseph County Fatal Crash Team continues to investigate a crash involving a pedestrian that occurred early this morning on State Road 23 near 27th Street in South Bend.

The collision happened around 2:50 a.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 22, when the driver of a grey Chevy Cruz heading southwest on State Road 23 struck the pedestrian.

The pedestrian has been identified as Juante M. Barry, 33.

Barry was walking in the unlit street wearing dark clothing, according to the St. Joseph County Prosecutor’s Office.

The 44-year-old driver, from Mishawaka, was cooperative with the investigation.

Barry was pronounced dead at the scene.
