One resident suffered a minor injury while trying to escape a burning home in South Bend.

Fire crews were called around 2:30 a.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 22, to a home in the 600 block of Leland Avenue.

Upon arrival, crews were met with heavy smoke and fire coming from the rear of the structure.

All residents were able to get out of the home before crews arrived. One resident suffered a wrist injury while getting out of the home from a second story window.

Crews made an attack on the fire until it was under control, and then did extensive overhaul checking for and extinguishing hotspots.

The origin and cause of the fire remain under investigation.
