Elkhart Sheriff’s Deputy wounded in accidental training shooting

An Elkhart County Sheriff’s Deputy was injured after discharging her weapon during a training exercise Tuesday afternoon.

It happened around 1 p.m. and the 35 year-old officer received a gunshot wound to the leg. She was released after treatment at Elkhart General Hospital.

The Elkhart County Sheriff’s Office has launched an internal investigation to determine the cause of the accidental shooting.
