Elkhart teen charged with confinement, sexual assault of a young boy

A teen runaway from the Bashor Children’s Home is accused of sexually assaulting’s a young boy.

19-year-old Matthew Girardot is charged with the confinement of a person under the age of 14. He is also charged in connection with an alleged incident in August 2020 involving other teens who ran away from Bashor home.

The Elkhart Truth reports that the police were contacted by a Bashor staff member when several of the teens who ran away returned.

One of the returned teens claimed that two of the others were sexually assualted in a cornfield, naming Girardot as one of the attackers.

Though he denies being involved.

An arrest warrant has been issued for Girardot, who if convicted, could face up to 6-years in prison.
