Governors Eric Holcomb and Gretchen Whitmer have directed flags to be flown at half-staff to honor and pay our respects to the U.S. service members and other victims killed in the terrorist attack on Aug. 26 in Kabul, Afghanistan.
Flags should be flown at half-staff until sunset on Monday, Aug. 30.
The governors have also asked businesses and residents to lower their flags to half-staff.
Governor Holcomb offered the following statement:
“Indiana grieves alongside the world on the loss of the 13 U.S. service members who put their lives on the line to protect our country. I would ask that every Hoosier keep their families and loved ones in their thoughts and prayers. As a country and as a state we need to be unified in honoring and paying our respects to the ones who paid the ultimate price. Janet and I will do our part to honor those who sacrificed their lives for our freedom.”
Governor Whitmer offered the following statement:
“We are forever indebted to the heroic service members, who laid down their lives in service to our nation to protect those seeking safety and freedom,” Governor Whitmer said. “The attack in Afghanistan is a global tragedy, and my thoughts are with the loved ones of those killed, the troops who were injured in the attack, and the countless Afghans killed and injured. We are praying for the safety of the U.S. service members still on the ground in Afghanistan continuing the mission.”
