Whitmer expected to propose tax changes in State of the State

Governor Gretchen Whitmer is asking lawmakers to triple the tax credit for low-wage workers in the state.

In her State of the State Address, scheduled for Wednesday night, Whitmer is expected to propose restoring the state earned income tax credit to 20% of the federal credit. A decade ago it was scaled back to 6% as part of a GOP-penned law that slashed business taxes.

Whitmer also plans on calling for a gradual end to what’s loosely called the state’s “retirement tax”, which was part of Governor Snyder’s tax overhaul in 2011.

The Governor proposed doubling the earned income tax when she took office in 2019, and reinstating the tax exemption for pensions, but was unsuccessful.

Heil Whitmer is done, regardless. Her authoritarian streak came out loud and clear with her COVID rules, and even the lefties don’t want to live under their own regime.
