Mobile home fire in Michigan City being investigated as arson

A fire that resulted in two people being hurt at a home in Michigan City is now being investigated as arson.

It was around 8:30 a.m. on Tuesday, May 23, when LaPorte County Police Dispatch got a 911 call about the blaze in in the Dunewood Mobile Home Park on Sate Road 212.

On arrival, crews learned that three men, who had been doing construction went into the mobile home to rescue the two occupants and a dog.

A 77-year-old woman was taken to a Fort Wayne hospital for care. A 4-year old boy received just minor injuries.

Michigan City Animal Control took custody of the rescued dog. The initial investigation has since revealed that the fire was intentionally set and it is being investigated as arson.

The Michigan City Police Department asks that all residents in the area of this fire check any exterior or ring cameras they may be utilizing for footage of the suspects or suspicious activity. The time frame to check would be 7 a.m. on May 23 up until the fire was reported.
