Niles couple charged with Medicaid fraud

A Niles couple has been charged with Medicaid fraud.

The couple, Gregory and Jacquelyn Barney, pled guilty to several counts of Medicaid fraud through their counseling practice.

They agreed to pay over $48,000 in restitution to the Medicaid program. The two worked at and owned Highland Counseling Center in Niles, Michigan.

Leader Publications reports that Jacquelyn got patient information from other practice and billed Medicaid for counseling sessions from Highland Counseling Center that were not actually provided.

The couple was arrested in September 2021 and arraigned in October. Sentencing is scheduled for May 30.
