Democrats in Michigan are wooing Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg to consider a run for Governor.
South Bend’s former Mayor moved to Traverse City after his failed Presidential campaign in 2020, as he joined the Biden Cabinet. Secretary Buttigieg has stated that he won’t make any announcements about his future until after his current role ends on January 20, but he’s already hearing from Dems in his new state who want him to step into the race to replace Governor Gretchen Whitmer when she term-limits out in 2026.
A source close to Buttigieg says he hasn’t ruled out the possibility.
At this early stage, Detroit Mayor Mike Duggan is expected by many Democrats to be the leading contender, and has said he plans on running as an independent.

That photo is like ten years old, and the headphones were provided to him by the Spanish radio station he was a guest on. C’mon, there have been thousands of pics taken of him in the last few years alone.
The headphones were actually given to him to use from an MNC employee. They are Kermit The Frog headphones and he didn’t have a problem using them.
Hey Dems, be careful what you wish for!
So, the next governor will be an R; that’s good news.
If it looks good for Pete to run, I hope he does it. Michigan would gain a lot having Pete as governor. I wish he would come and replace our NYC mayor, but I’ll support whatever route Pete chooses.
The guy is an empty suit. He was a failure as SB mayor. He is a failure as a federal official. Just ask the people of Eastern Ohio and the train wreck they experienced. But Michigan seems to just love incompetence so go for it.
