The final suspect in a July 2024 quadruple shooting has been apprehended, bringing closure to a months-long investigation.
Deshon Gates, 21, was taken into custody on Wednesday, Jan. 22, after a series of events involving police agencies in St. Joseph County. The St. Joseph County Police Department’s Warrants Division identified a vehicle linked to Gates while conducting a fugitive investigation in Mishawaka.
When the vehicle entered South Bend, local police initiated a traffic stop. While one occupant exited and cooperated, Gates moved into the driver’s seat and fled, ultimately crashing near the Morris Performing Arts Center in downtown South Bend.
Gates was arrested at the scene and transported to a hospital for evaluation. He faces charges of Possession of a Machine Gun and Criminal Recklessness with a Deadly Weapon stemming from the July shooting on Bissell Street, which left four people injured.
With Gates now in custody, authorities confirm that all suspects in the shooting have been arrested or served with warrants.
