A bill by State Sen. Linda Rogers to increase the minimum salary for teachers has passed the Senate Committee on Education and Career Development.

The bill would require school corporations to increase the minimum salary for a teacher employed by a school corporation to $45,000.

Currently, the minimum is set at $40,000. The bill also looks to create more affordable health care costs for educators by having the Indiana Department of Education analyze the feasibility and costs associated with increasing school corporation employee health plan options.

And, the bill would provide 20 days of paid leave for a full-time teacher and 10 days of paid leave for a part-time teacher for certain parental situations. The bill will move to the Senate Committee on Appropriations for further consideration.

And where is the requirement for them to provide actual education? I have no issue with the income but there needs to be a requirement to turn out educated students. Not indoctrinated students.
