Intersection improvement project to begin March 27 on Ireland and Ironwood Roads
A major intersection improvement project is set to begin Thursday, March 27, at the busy junction of Ireland Road and Ironwood Road, prompting temporary lane restrictions and closures over the coming months.
The project, which includes full pavement reconstruction, curb realignment, and new traffic signal installation, aims to modernize and improve safety at the intersection. Crews previously patched the pavement in September 2022 to stabilize the area ahead of the larger construction effort.
Construction will unfold in six phases, with each phase expected to take up to 21 days to complete, weather permitting. Traffic patterns and restrictions will shift as work progresses. Signal installation has already been completed in advance of the main construction.
City officials expect the entire project to wrap up by early July, barring any weather delays.
In the first phase, work will concentrate on the northwest corner of the intersection. Southbound Ironwood Road will be reduced to one through lane and one left-turn lane. Right turns from Ironwood onto Ireland Road will be prohibited during this phase.
A detour will redirect affected drivers south on Ironwood Road to Jackson Road, then east to Miami Street. Motorists are advised to follow posted signage and allow extra time for travel through the area.
