MICHIGAN CITY – A routine call for service turned into a major criminal investigation early Tuesday morning when Michigan City police responded to a report of an “unknown problem” at a home on Tremont Street.
Around 1 a.m. on June 18, officers from Uniform Patrol Shift III were dispatched to 525 Tremont Street. Upon arrival, they heard a woman yelling for help from inside the home. Officers entered the residence, safely rescued the woman, and detained the suspect – identified as 39-year-old Adam Bray of Michigan City – without incident.
During the investigation, officers obtained a search warrant for the home. Inside, they discovered multiple firearms, ammunition, and suspected illegal drugs, according to police.
Bray was arrested and is facing several felony charges, including criminal confinement while armed with a deadly weapon, unlawful possession of a firearm by a serious violent felon, battery with a deadly weapon, criminal recklessness involving gunfire, and dealing a substance represented to be a controlled substance.
He is being held on a $25,000 cash-only bond and is scheduled to appear in LaPorte Superior Court 1 on June 24 before Judge Jaime Oss.
