The National Bobblehead Hall of Fame and Museum in Milwaukee, Wisconsin is unveiling the first bobblehead featuring the Indiana Hoosiers new mascot “Hoosier the Bison” on Tuesday, July 22.
The officially licensed, limited-edition bobblehead is being released in conjunction with Indiana University reinstating its mascot after a nearly 60-year hiatus.
Hoosier the Bison will officially make its triumphant return at the first home football game of the 2025 season on Saturday, August 30, at Memorial Stadium.
The bobblehead is being produced by the National Bobblehead Hall of Fame and Museum, an official licensee of Indiana University Bloomington, and will be available in their online store.
Each bobblehead will be individually numbered.
The bobbleheads are $35 each plus an $8 flat-rate shipping charge per order.
Standing on a circular base bearing its name, the Hoosier the Bison bobblehead is wearing a crimson sweater adorned with the IU logo along with crimson and cream striped pants.
The original bison mascot made its debut at Indiana’s final home football game of the 1965 season.
Highlighted by a trip to the Rose Bowl on January 1st, 1968, the bison mascot’s long hiatus began after the 1969 season when student and fan support for the bison mascot began to wane.
The mascot’s homecoming is a result of the “Bring Back the Bison Act” passed by the Indiana University Student Body Congress on December 16th, 2024. In response to the student government vote to re-adopt the Bison as the official IU-Bloomington mascot, IU Athletics moved forward with embracing it as a symbol of both the department and campus’ spirit, passion, tradition, unity, and success.
Why a bison? The state of Indiana and the bison have been linked for more than two centuries. The bison first appeared on official court documents signed by then Indiana Territory Governor and future U.S. President Williams Henry Harris in 1801, a full 15 years before Indiana became the country’s 19th state in 1816.
The National Bobblehead Hall of Fame and Museum, is located at 170 S. 1st St. in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, opened to the public on February 1st, 2019. The HOF and Museum also produces high quality, customized bobbleheads for retail sale as well as organizations, individuals, and teams across the country.
