The Elkhart City Council is considering an ordinance to allow a new gas station on the city’s east side.
The council approved the first reading of a rezoning ordinance for more than three acres of land at County Road 17 and Middlebury Street.
Currently zoned for single-family homes, the land would be reclassified as a Planned Unit Development.
This change would enable the construction of a “RaceTrac” gas station, the company’s first in Northern Indiana.
The ordinance will be discussed in future council meetings.
