South Bend man charged in Grant Street shooting

A South Bend man has been arrested and charged following a weekend shooting on the city’s west side.

Police were called to the 700 block of South Grant Street around 11:40 p.m. Friday, August 1, where they found a 48-year-old man with a gunshot wound. The victim was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Investigators with the South Bend Police Department’s Violent Crimes Unit identified the victim’s brother, 53-year-old Donald Simpson II, as the suspect. Simpson was arrested and is now facing charges of aggravated battery, battery by means of a deadly weapon, and criminal recklessness with a deadly weapon.

He is being held at the St. Joseph County Jail.
