Bicyclist injured after being struck by car in Elkhart County

A Goshen man was hospitalized after his bicycle was struck by a car on County Road 18, just west of County Road 13.

According to the Elkhart County Sheriff’s Office, the crash happened around 8:15 a.m. on Sunday, Aug. 24, when a 2010 Chevrolet Malibu, driven by a 75-year-old Elkhart man, attempted an improper pass and hit the rear of the bicycle.

The bicyclist, identified as a 38-year-old Goshen man, suffered a facial laceration, head pain, and a dislocated shoulder. He was transported by ambulance to Elkhart General Hospital.

The driver of the car was not injured but was cited for improper passing.
