A South Bend restaurant forced to close nine months ago due to fire has confirmed it will not reopen.
In a statement on Facebook, the owners of Maxi’s Food & Spirits Barn thanked the community for more than three decades of support and said many customers had become like family.
The business, which had been open for 34 years, shut its doors after the blaze, last year.
The owners reflected on the journey, noting both the support and challenges they have faced since having to close.
While the owners expressed gratitude for the outpouring of encouragement they received, they said there are no plans to reopen.

“Support and challenges” includes repeated theft of equipment as they were trying to rebuild, according to stories on other news sites. It seems like “soft on crime” is bad for business.
