Job scams are still on the rise in Michigan, following losses that neared ten million dollars in just the first three quarters of 2025.
That’s according to an analysis of FTC data by digital forensics firm CNC Intelligence.
The spike continues as thousands of Michigan workers face layoffs this January from companies like General Motors and Yanfeng, making job seekers prime targets for scammers.
Most losses come from fake job offers and bogus employment agencies that charge upfront fees or steal personal information.
CNC Intelligence CEO Matthew Stern warns red flags include unusually high pay, pressure to send money or communication only through apps like WhatsApp or Telegram.
If you suspect a scam, end communication and report it to authorities or the FBI’s Internet Crime Complaint Center.
