U.S. Congressman Tim Walberg has officially submitted the required signatures to appear on the August 4 Republican primary ballot for Michigan’s 5th Congressional District.
Walberg, who currently serves as Chairman of the House Education & Workforce Committee, is so far the only Republican candidate to file paperwork ahead of the April 21 deadline.
In a statement, Walberg highlighted what he described as a productive term in Congress.
“This session of Congress has been one of my most successful terms,” Walberg said. “As chairman of the Education and Workforce Committee, I authored over $280 billion in savings for taxpayers in the Working Families Tax Cuts, ushered in reforms to higher education, and helped empower parents and students.”
Walberg also pointed to legislative efforts aimed at lowering health care costs, protecting the Great Lakes, and securing federal investments for communities throughout his district.
He added that recent tax measures included provisions eliminating taxes on overtime, tips, and Social Security benefits, which he said contributed to what he described as the largest tax refunds in history.
Walberg said his outreach across the district-from Lake Michigan to Lake Erie-has helped reinforce his connection with voters.
“Voters know I’m not just their voice in Washington, but am delivering results,” he said.
The filing deadline for candidates seeking a spot on the August primary ballot is April 21.
