Community events mark start of summer in Elkhart and South Bend

Families in Elkhart and South Bend will have opportunities to celebrate the start of summer with free community events hosted by local law enforcement agencies.
The Elkhart Police Department will partner with the Tolson Center for a Summer Kickoff event on Sunday, June 7, from 1 to 5 p.m. at the Tolson Center, located at 1320 Benham Avenue.
The event will feature free food, music, dancing, a bike safety rodeo and family activities.
In South Bend, the South Bend Police Department will host its annual School’s Out Cookout on Friday, June 12, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Martin Luther King Jr. Dream Center.
The free event will include food, drinks, games and prizes as students begin summer vacation.
