An officer-involved shooting is under investigation on South Bend’s north side.
South Bend Police responded to a report of an unwanted person near Corby Boulevard and Howard Street around 9:20 Tuesday night. Police say the caller had a protective order against the suspect.
According to Police Chief Scott Ruszkowski, the suspect exited a vehicle with a firearm. Officers attempted to detain the individual before shots were fired several blocks away.
Authorities have not said who fired first, but Mishawaka Police confirmed multiple officers discharged their weapons. The suspect was taken to the hospital. Their condition has not been released.
Mishawaka Police and the St. Joseph County Police Department are leading the investigation.
