Michigan unclaimed property website seeks to distribute stagnant money

(953 MNC)

There’s more than 2 billion dollars in unclaimed money and property in the State of Michigan, which has only been able to pay out less than half of the money it has taken in over the last 10 years.

Michigan’s Department of Treasury has paychecks, tax refunds, insurance settlements and more that continue to grow, and haven’t been paired up with their rightful owners.

Bridge Michigan reports that there is a searchable database of windfalls of more than $50 that works alongside a nationwide search engine for unclaimed property. There are roughly 26 million properties to be dealt out, with the average payout sitting around $2500.
