Congressman Fred Upton authors bill to keep nuclear waste out of Great Lakes Basin

Congressman Fred Upton floated an amendment for a bill that passed a US House committee designed to keep nuclear waste out of the Great Lakes Basin.

It regards legislation that was stalled during the Obama administration. The bipartisan amendment seeks to keep nuclear waste out of the area of the lakes.

That bill, co-authored by Michigan Democrat Debbie Dingell, passed the House Energy and Commerce Committee Wednesday 49 to 4, and would establish a storage site in Nevada.

Congressman Upton says Canada needs to understand that this is an issue that could impact diplomatic relations. Upton says the full bill could be considered by the House within the next month.
