Stadium Flats fire investigation continues

South Bend fire investigators are continuing their work at the Stadium Flats construction-site fire scene downtown.

Investigators spent Tuesday gathering evidence and reviewing nearby surveillance video. They say the next major step is safely removing the damaged crane before crews can search the debris.

A state fire investigator is assisting South Bend fire officials. A cadaver dog checked the site and found no sign that anyone was trapped inside. An accelerant-detection dog will also be used as the investigation continues.

Fire officials say it is too early to say whether the fire was suspicious, and the investigation could take weeks or longer.
