School City of Mishawaka is looking to make several improvements at its schools, but it needs approval from the school board and from Mishawaka voters first.

The improvements include putting new roofs on Twin Branch Elementary and Mishawaka High School, updating security features like inside locks on classroom doors and installing new heating or air conditioning systems at Emmons and Beiger elementary schools, WNDU reported. 

That’s the focus of one referendum, while another will address improving student technology, employee pay and classroom size.

Both referendums combined would be an estimated $14 million over 15 years, WNDU reported. That’s about $125 for every $100,000 of a property’s assessed value.

The School Board is scheduled to vote on the referendums on May 31. If the School Board approves the referendums, they will be on the November ballot.
